Prayer Shawl Ministry

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry & Bible Study is temporarily cancelled until the church building reopens.

Our Women’s Prayer Shawl Ministry continues to be a strong and growing group of UMCE!  Our current format is a relaxing, non-threatening atmosphere where we gather at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday mornings to study God’s word together.  We first start by lifting up names for prayer for those who are heavy upon our hearts.  Then we move to our application Bible Study, which we read aloud and then we have a discussion on how we can apply the lesson to our lives today.  Nobody is ever ‘called upon’, and our discussion is totally voluntary.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry began within the Women’s Bible Study group, and those who knit or crochet bring their handiwork and work on it while the lesson is being read; however there are some who don’t knit or crochet and that is perfectly fine.
This ministry is a way our group can reach out into our community with the Good News of our loving and caring God. As we study God’s word, we knit or crochet shawls made with love and prayer.
Our shawls are blessed by our Pastor during our Sunday worship service. Our prayer shawls are given to console those who are grieving, comfort those who are ill, bring hope to those who are in despair. Our shawls are given to celebrate friendships, love, achievements, weddings, graduations and new births.
Prayer shawls are a reminder of God’s presence, love, hope, comfort, healing and blessings, a reminder that we are all God’s beloved children and are always wrapped in his love.
For more information about our ministry or to inquire about a prayer shawl, contact Jane through the United Methodist Church Office.
We would love to have you join our group and benefit from the fellowship of other women and get to know some that you may not know – so please feel free to just show up on Wednesday mornings at 9:30, or call the church office (860-745-6241) with any questions that you may have.  Even if you can’t come every Wednesday, we would still love to have you join us as your schedule permits!  As far as weather is concerned, we've decided that if the Enfield school systems are closed or delayed, there will be no Bible Study that day.
With each shawl given, we include a tag like this one.
